THE COLOUR NOTES
Supplies for simple colour studies
A small, useful kit is a good place to start.
Choose one medium
Start with pencils, markers or paints rather than buying several systems at once. Pick materials that suit the kind of studies you want to make and the workspace you have.
Match paper to the medium
Read the manufacturer’s description for the paper and the tools. A sketchbook made for dry drawing may not be intended for wet paint. Check dimensions, sheet count and any stated material compatibility.
Make a swatch page
Label each colour and keep a small example of it on the paper you plan to use. This gives you a practical reference when comparing combinations.
Buy for the project
Compare the individual items, not just the size of the set. Check the current listing’s contents, care instructions, delivery and total price.
